Builder Boards, a short history

Last year just before covid arrived I took a two sets of Builder Boards to Roosevelt School and left it there for 10 days. I enjoyed being around the kids and  watching them play.  I encountered kids who had seen builder Boards before at a preschool I visited last year and ran into an old friend who use to live next door  and now taught 1st grade. I made new friends including the school administrative assistant and a couple of teachers. One of the teachers asked me if I thought Builder Boards would make a good project for her son’s Eagle Scout project.

YES! I gave her a book with pictures of 8th graders building a set for the women care shelter. I also told her about a young lady in town who had built a set as her senior project and given it to a local nonprofit. A few months later I was visited by Quentin Vasques and his father and they peppered me with questions. Quentin decided to go ahead and a few months later, with help from Dad and from other scouts who helped with the finishing.

I’ll update this article later with pictures from the delivery of the set to the school.

He is starting screws in the pattern which will be screwed to a board and then shoved through the shaper. Only 300  boards to go. The pattern for each size board is on top of the stack

Here he is cutting notches. The pattern is on the top.

Lots of boards. When time for finishing came he had help from fellow scouts.
